The violin used in this recording is a combination of instruments by Giovanni Battista Grancino and Carl Antonio Testore, on loan from Jan Strick.

Frescobaldi's 'Primo Libro de Toccate' (1615) is considered a clear guide for applying the 'seconda prattica' (a new vocal and instrumental style) to instrumental music.

The recording sessions took place in June and October 2009 at the Notre-Dame de Centeilles church.

Girolamo Frescobaldi, the composer, was known to attract thousands of people to St. Peter's in Rome to hear him play the organ.
Instruments
The harpsichord featured on this album was made by Keith Hill & Max Doronin in 2008, modeled after a 1658 instrument by Girolamo de Zentis.
