Composition History
Gordon Chin's Symphony No. 3 'Taiwan' was commissioned by and composed for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra of Canada, and was first performed in 1996.

Gordon Chin conceived his Symphony No. 3 'Taiwan' after reading several books on the island's history and as a result of his decision to return home after living overseas.

Wen-Sinn Yang, the cellist on this recording, became principal cellist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra at age 24 and won first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 1991.

Gordon Chin's Cello Concerto No. 1 was commissioned by the ChiLin Education Foundation and premiered in 2006 by cellist Felix Fan and the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan.
Composer Biography
Gordon Chin, one of Taiwan's most prolific composers, was born in Taiwan, spent his teenage years in Japan, and earned his doctoral degree from the Eastman School of Music.
