Madeleine Mitchell, the violinist and director of the London Chamber Ensemble, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in 50 countries and has been nominated for GRAMMY® and BBC Music Magazine awards.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Grace Williams considered the trumpet her favorite instrument, admiring its brilliance and lyrical potential, and incorporated it into her major instrumental chamber works.
Composer Biography
Grace Williams, a Welsh composer, studied at the Royal College of Music with Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gordon Jacob, and formed a composers' club with fellow student Benjamin Britten.
Critical Reception
Grace Williams was highly self-critical, often writing 'not worth performing' on her manuscripts, which may explain why her work has been neglected despite her reputation as Wales' foremost female composer.
