Composition History
Haydn's Symphony No. 53, 'L'Impériale', was perhaps his most famous symphony during his lifetime, widely published and arranged across Europe.
Album & Artwork
For the visual presentation of each volume in the Haydn2032 series, the project collaborates with a photographer from the famous Magnum agency.
Recording & Production
This album is part of the "Haydn2032" project, an ambitious undertaking to record all 107 of Joseph Haydn's symphonies by the 300th anniversary of his birth.
Instruments
The recording features period-appropriate instruments, including a double bass from 1759 by Johann Joseph Stadlmann, kindly provided by Privatstiftung Esterházy, Eisenstadt.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Giovanni Antonini, the artistic director of the Haydn2032 project, views Haydn's music as "a kaleidoscope of human emotions" and approaches the symphonies thematically rather than chronologically.
Performer Biography
Giovanni Antonini, the conductor on this album, is a founding member of the Baroque ensemble Il Giardino Armonico and is also the Principal Guest Conductor of the Mozarteum Orchestra and Kammerorchester Basel.
