Haydn spent much of his career as Kapellmeister for the Esterházy family, serving Prince Paul Anton and later Prince Nicolaus at the magnificent Eszterháza palace.
Historical Context
Haydn's career coincided with a significant change in keyboard instruments, as the fortepiano and pianoforte gradually replaced the harpsichord and clavichord.

Joseph Haydn, the composer, was the son of a wheelwright and received his musical training as a chorister at St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.

The Kungsbacka Piano Trio takes its name from the Swedish town where it gave its first performance and where it now hosts an annual festival.
Performer Biography
The Kungsbacka Piano Trio, formed in 1997, won First Prize in the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and was selected as 'Rising Stars' by the European Concert Halls Organisation.
Composition History
Haydn dedicated three of his Piano Trios (Hob.XV: 24-26) to Rebecca Schroeter, a widow with whom he had a close relationship during his time in England.
