Joseph Haydn, the composer, was the son of a wheelwright and received his musical training as a chorister at St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.

This album was recorded at Potton Hall, Westleton, Suffolk, UK, from October 6th-9th, 2008, with Andrew Keener as producer and Simon Eadon as engineer.

Haydn spent much of his career in the service of the Esterházy family, working at the palace of Eszterháza, which was designed to rival Versailles in magnificence.
Performer Biography
The Kungsbacka Piano Trio is named after the Swedish town where they gave their first performance and where they have established an annual festival.
Composition History
Haydn's Piano Trios, Hob. XV:27-29, were dedicated to Mrs. Bartolozzi (née Jansen), a renowned London pianist and teacher for whom Haydn also wrote keyboard sonatas.
Performer Biography
The Kungsbacka Piano Trio, formed in 1997, won First Prize in the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and was selected as 'Rising Stars' by the European Concert Halls Organisation.
Historical Context
Haydn's career coincided with a significant change in keyboard instruments, as the fortepiano and pianoforte gradually replaced the harpsichord and clavichord.
