Gustav Holst, the composer, developed his practical knowledge of female voices while on staff at St Paul's Girls' School in Hammersmith starting in 1905.
Composition History
A Choral Fantasia was commissioned by Herbert Sumsion, organist of Gloucester Cathedral, for the Three Choirs Festival in 1930, and included a concertante organ part for him to play.
