Composition History
Horneman's opera, Aladdin, was his masterpiece, on which he worked for almost twenty years, undergoing radical reworkings after a scandalous premiere in 1888 before achieving success fourteen years later.

Horneman believed that romantic music was his true domain, as demonstrated by his Gurre suite, one of his best-known works.
