Kai Schumacher's debut album, featuring Frederic Rzewski's variations "The people united will never be defeated!", was celebrated as a 'pianistic sensation' and named CD of the month in 2010.
Recording & Production
The electronic textures in Brian Belet's "Summer phantoms: Nocturne" are derived exclusively from sounds inside the grand piano, but are heavily processed to obscure their origin.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The album features five hymns to the night, composed by five American composers over nearly 100 years, which, despite stylistic differences, form a cohesive narrative.
Album & Artwork
The album "INSOMNIA" is conceived as a nocturnal odyssey, exploring a world between deep black and flickering neon, melancholy and mania.
Performer Biography
Kai Schumacher, the pianist, blurs the boundaries between classical avant-garde and pop culture in his concerts, earning him the nickname 'punk pianist' from BR-Klassik.
Interpretation
For George Gershwin's "Sleepless Night," the performer deliberately chose to record on an old honky-tonk piano instead of a modern concert grand to evoke a specific mood.
