The Martinikerk organ was enlarged in 1691 by the famous German organ builder Arp Schnitger, who added two majestic pedal towers.

The Martinikerk organ underwent extensive restoration work from 1976-1984 by German organ builder Jürgen Ahrend, bringing it back to its former glory after being severely mutilated in the 19th and 20th centuries.
