Bohuslav Martinů, a Czech composer, wrote seven string quartets between 1918 and 1947, covering all his stylistic periods, with his first known composition being a string quartet at age twelve.
Composition History
Janáček's two string quartets, written late in his life in 1923 and 1928, were influenced by his appreciation for the quartet as a vehicle for deep feelings, a sentiment he expressed in 1880 after hearing a Beethoven string quartet.

This album was recorded using 24-bit / 96 kHz technology, which offers a dynamic range up to 48 dB greater and 256 times the resolution of standard 16-bit recordings.

Performer Biography
The Doric String Quartet, praised by Gramophone magazine, won First Prize in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in 2008 and has an exclusive recording contract with Chandos Records since 2010.
