Jollage's Premier Livre de Pièces de Clavecin, his only known publication, was published in Paris in 1738 and dedicated to the Marquise de Clermont d'Amboise.

Performer Biography

Fernando De Luca, the harpsichordist on this recording, founded 'Sala del Cembalo del Caro Sassone' in 2006, which has become the largest source of recordings by a professional harpsichordist in the world.

Composer Biography

Charles-Alexandre Jollage, a French harpsichordist and organist, served as organist to Stanislas Leszcznski, the King of Poland exiled in France, at the castle of Chambord.

Compositional Technique

Jollage's harpsichord pieces often use the rondeau form, doubling many pieces into two autonomous sections (premiere partte e seconde partte), one in major and the other in minor.

Interpretation

Fernando De Luca, the harpsichordist, approaches the music by associating it with historical images and readings of the period to place the composer within his time.
