Composer Biography

Aram Khachaturian, though Armenian, was born and grew up in Tiflis (now Tbilisi), the Georgian capital, and never lived in his true homeland.

Recording & Production

The Vocalise, Op. 34 No. 14 by Rachmaninov, is performed in a version arranged by American cellist Leonard Rose.

Compositional Technique

Kabalevsky's Second Cello Concerto uses a restrained orchestra, featuring double woodwind, an alto saxophone, contrabassoon, four horns, two trumpets, two trombones, timpani, percussion, harp, and strings.
