Kenneth Fuchs's primary instrument in high school was the flute, and he played piccolo in the University of Miami's Wind Ensemble.

Composition History

Solitary the Thrush, a concerto for C and alto flute and orchestra, is inspired by lines from Walt Whitman's elegy for Abraham Lincoln, 'When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd'.

Kenneth Fuchs has composed six works inspired by paintings by Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011), an artist he discovered in 1983 and considered a kindred creative spirit.

Composition History

The work Cloud Slant, a concerto for orchestra, was conceived in the early 1990s but only came into full focus for this recording when conductor John Wilson planned the album in late 2019.
