Joyce Lindorff has received solo recitalist awards from the Pro Musicis Foundation (France) and the National Endowment for the Arts (US) and has performed with the New York Philharmonic.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded in July 2013 at the Boyer Recording Studio, Temple University, Philadelphia, and was funded by a Dean's Grant from the Boyer College of Music and Dance.
Instruments
The harpsichord used for this recording was built in 1993 by Barbara and Thomas Wolf, after a Dumont (1707) instrument, specifically for Joyce Lindorff.
Performer Biography
Joyce Lindorff, the harpsichordist on this recording, is a Professor of Keyboard Studies at Temple University and has taught historical keyboards and performance practice for over 20 years.
Compositional Technique
Couperin's pedagogical treatise, L'Art de toucher le clavecin, provides precise fingering for difficult passages, keyboard exercises, and a detailed table of ornaments, which he insisted be executed exactly as he wrote them.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Throughout his life, François Couperin, the composer, aimed to combine the essential qualities of French and Italian musical styles, even using the subtitle 'les gouts réunis' (reunited tastes) for his Nouveau Concerts.
