Liszt began transcribing Beethoven's symphonies for solo piano in the summer of 1837 while staying at George Sand's Nohant home.
Performer Biography
Ashley Wass, the performer on this recording, is the only British winner of the London International Piano Competition and a former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist.
Instruments
The 'Pastoral' on this CD was recorded on a Girikowsky fortepiano from Moravia, dating from the mid-1820s, which has a warm timbre and distinctive sounding pedals.
