Carl Tausig, a Polish-born child prodigy and virtuoso pianist, was considered Liszt's most talented and favorite student, apart from Hans von Bülow.

Carl Tausig created piano transcriptions of Liszt's 11 symphonic poems and two symphonies between 1855 and 1858 while studying with Liszt.
