Performer Biography
Carl Schuricht, the conductor, was born into a dynasty of organ builders in Danzig in 1880 and grew up in a unique sphere of art and craft.
Interpretation
Carl Schuricht demanded an objective approach to music, focusing on the 'transpersonal essence' of a work rather than using it to stage his own person.
Historical Context
Carl Schuricht relocated to Switzerland at the end of 1944 after his plea for 'internal and external peace' in Beethoven's Missa solemnis went unheard in wartime Germany.
