Gemma Rosefield, the cellist, plays a cello made in Naples in 1704 by Alessandro Gagliano, which was formerly owned and played by the Prince Regent.

David Matthews, the composer, began composing at age sixteen alongside his brother Colin, and for years they were each other's only teachers.

Performer Biography

Gemma Rosefield, the cellist on this recording, won the prestigious Pierre Fournier Award at Wigmore Hall in 2007 and made her concerto debut at age sixteen.

Composition History

The first Piano Trio by David Matthews was commissioned in 1983 for the Trio Zingara, at the instigation of Hans Keller, an Austrian émigré writer and musician.
