Composition History

The Missa in c was commissioned from Simon Mayr by Joseph Morel for the first Holy Mass of his younger brother, Father Gall Morel, and premiered on May 28, 1826.

This recording is a coproduction by Südwestrundfunk (SWR2) and Carus-Verlag, recorded at the Katholische Kirche St. Johann in Rot an der Rot in August 2015.

Composition History

Mayr's Stabat Mater was likely first performed in 1803 or shortly thereafter, possibly as part of the Holy Week celebrations at Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo.

Composer Biography

Johann Simon Mayr, who received his first music lessons from his organist father, was appointed maestro di cappella at the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo in 1802 and remained there for the rest of his life.
