Felix Mendelssohn was born into a wealthy, liberal, and cultured family; his paternal grandfather was the Enlightenment philosopher Moses Mendelssohn.
Historical Context
Mendelssohn's teacher, Carl Friedrich Zelter, introduced the eleven-year-old composer to Goethe, who marvelled at his gifts and proclaimed him Mozart's successor.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Felix Mendelssohn viewed chamber music as an art of living, akin to voices in a conversation, and considered it impermissible to compose anything he didn't feel "through and through."
Recording & Production
This album aims to present the first truly complete recording of Felix Mendelssohn's works for violin and piano, relying on the complete edition published by Breitkopf & Härtel in 2021.
Recording & Production
The recording took place in the Salle de Musique in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, a venue inaugurated in 1955 and known for its extraordinary acoustics.
