Composer Biography
Dmitri Shostakovich, a renowned Soviet composer, was immensely impressed by Weinberg's First Symphony and arranged for him to come to Moscow, where they became lifelong friends.
Compositional Technique
Weinberg was a prolific composer, writing 26 symphonies, 17 string quartets (two more than his friend Shostakovich), 28 instrumental sonatas, 7 concertos, and over 150 songs.
Composer Biography
Weinberg's father, Shmuel, was a violinist and conductor in Yiddish theatre in Warsaw, and introduced his son to traditional and liturgical Jewish music.

The Zemlinsky Quartet, founded in 1994, has won numerous international awards, including first prize at the Bordeaux String Quartet Competition in 2010.
