The composition of Música callada, a key work on this album, was made possible by a grant Federico Mompou received from the Fundación Juan March in 1966.

This album presents the only live recording ever made by composer Federico Mompou of his important piano work, Música callada, Volume 4.
Compositional Technique
Mompou explored microtonal tunings and quarter-tone scales, influenced by Eastern philosophies and the harmonics of bells, with sketches of microtonal keyboards appearing in his notebooks.

This concert recording is the inaugural release for MarchVivo, the new record label of the Fundación Juan March.
Interpretation
Mompou believed performers should be free to interpret his scores, even abandoning prescriptive expressive markings and leaving it to them to find the subtle fields of sound.
