Hungarian composer Emanuel Moór (1863-1931) was a close friend of the legendary cellist Pablo Casals, and his cello works are the subject of this album. Cellists Sebastian Hess and David Stromberg partner with the Nurnberger Symphoniker and conductor Rudolf Pielhmayer to perform Moór’s Double Concerto, and two chamber works – a Cello Sonata and a Suite for Four Cellos – also feature.

Emanuel Moór composed the Concerto for Two Cellos and Orchestra for the world-famous cellist Pablo Casals and his partner, the exceptionally talented Portuguese cellist Guilhermina Suggia.

After 1920, Emanuel Moór shifted his focus to instrument building, developing a double-manual concert grand piano and modifying string instruments for a larger sound.

Johannes Brahms was a compositional role model for Emanuel Moór, who also incorporated the oscillating colors of Claude Debussy in his instrumentation.
