Composition History

Mozart composed three Divertimenti (often called Salzburg Symphonies Nos. 1-3) in early 1772 in Salzburg to have new music ready for engagements during his third Italian journey.

Compositional Technique

The Divertimenti on this album consist of two fast movements and one slow movement, departing from the traditional divertimento form which usually includes one or two minuets.

Composition History

Mozart entered his Serenade in G major, 'Eine kleine Nachtmusik,' into his catalogue on August 10, 1787, originally describing it as a five-movement piece, though only four movements are known today.

The Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, formed in 1971, plays on authentic instruments and has toured extensively worldwide, including China, Japan, and the USA.

Compositional Technique

Mozart's three Divertimenti for string parts were designed to be flexible, playable with one player per part or a larger complement, and could easily have simple wind parts added.
