Leopold Mozart's earliest surviving works, the Sonate sei da chiesa e da camera, Op.1 (1740), were dedicated to Johann Baptist, Count of Thurn-Valsassina and Taxis, a Salzburg canon and president of the consistory.

Leopold Mozart, father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was expelled from Salzburg Benedictine University in 1739 for "insolence, indifference and poor attendance."
