In Piano Concerto No. 23 (K. 488), Mozart included clarinets in the orchestra, moving away from the more martial sounds of trumpets and timpani found in some of his other concertos.

Carlos Miguel Prieto, the conductor, is the music director of Mexico's oldest orchestra, the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, and was appointed music director designate of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006.

Mozart wrote multiple versions of the second and third movements for his Piano Concerto No. 23 (K. 488), including an Adagio that later became an Andante based on the traditional siciliana dance form.
