Composer Biography
Mozart's own son believed that his father would have achieved immortality even if these quartets were the only works he had ever written.
Critical Reception
The Engegård Quartet's debut CD was praised as 'breathtaking' in The Strad and their second release won Pizzicato magazine's 'Supersonic Award'.
Instruments
The Engegård Quartet members play on valuable historical instruments, including a Giovanni Battista Rogeri violin (1690) and a Giacomo Zanoli cello (1737), on loan from Dextra Musica.
Composition History
Mozart dedicated these six string quartets to his paternal friend Joseph Haydn, working on them from 1782 to 1785.
Performer Biography
The Engegård Quartet was formed under the midnight sun in Lofoten in 2006 and has become one of Norway's most sought-after ensembles.
Instruments
The instruments used in Mozart's time had sensitive gut strings and less string tension, resulting in a softer feel and a different playing technique compared to modern instruments.
