Georg Muffat, the composer, was born in 1653 in Savoy, France, to French-Scottish parents and studied music in Paris for six years from the age of ten.

Composition History
Muffat composed the five ensemble sonatas of Armonico Tributo in Rome as a thank you to his employer and to mark the 1100th anniversary of the archbishopric of Salzburg.
