1/7Performer Biography
Negin Habibi, the guitarist and initiator of sixty1strings, grew up in several countries and played electric guitar in rock bands in addition to classical guitar.
Performer Biography
Ekaterina Solovey, the mandolinist, initially studied the Russian folk instrument domra before dedicating herself to the mandolin.
Interpretation
For Marin Marais's Folies d'Espagne, the original version was shortened, and new melodies were added, incorporating modern playing techniques for all three instruments.
Instruments
The 'arpa de dos órdenes' is a purely Spanish phenomenon in form and construction, extremely popular on the Iberian Peninsula, used as both basso continuo and solo instrument.
Recording & Production
The album is a distillation of almost ten years of making music together by the trio sixty1strings.
Instruments
The instruments used are replicas of original Baroque instruments: the Spanish Baroque harp ('arpa de dos órdenes'), the Baroque guitar, and the Baroque mandolin (also known as the treble lute).
Instruments
The Baroque mandolin, originating in Italy, is considered a treble lute due to its tuning and shape, and was played with fingertips and a quill.
