Composer Biography

Václav Pichl, a Czech composer (1741-1805) whose Sinfonia in C is featured, was a man of university education and was known as a violinist, conductor, and writer, active mainly in Vienna.

Historical Context

A large collection of nearly 900 musical works from the Gostyń band was scattered in 1876 due to the dissolution of the local congregation by Prussian authorities, with only 211 works recovered later.
