Interpretation
The album features works originally for flute by Sciarrino, Telemann, and Debussy, which are performed on the saxophone, transforming them into new experiences.
Album & Artwork
The album title "Mutazioni" (Mutations) reflects the concept that the saxophone's sound and the compositions themselves are transformed, rediscovering their nature.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The album includes "Dalla periferia" by Alberto Napolitano, the performer, which explores the concept of the 'suburb' not just as a physical place, but also an interior space of thoughts and fears.
Compositional Technique
Salvatore Sciarrino's "Canzona di ringraziamento" transforms the instrument from monodic to polyphonic, with different emissions overlapping simultaneously, creating an archaic song.
Performer Biography
Alberto Napolitano, the saxophonist on this album, graduated with honors from the Conservatory 'U. Giordano' of Foggia and furthered his studies in composition with Ivan Fedele and Daniele Bravi.
