Composition History

Schumann began composing his Liederalbum für die Jugend (Song Album for the Young) in Dresden amidst the 1848 Revolution, despite having composed revolutionary pieces earlier that year.

Compositional Technique

In his Italienisches Liederbuch, Hugo Wolf chose to set rispetti, which are short love poems, ignoring ballads and death laments from the original translations.

Recording & Production

This album was recorded live at The Oxford Lieder Festival on October 14, 2006, in The Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, St Hilda's College, Oxford.
