Composition History
The work "Humoresca" for double bass and orchestra was commissioned by the manager of the Orquesta de Castilla y León as a tribute to their principal bassist, Miroslav Kasperek, who was seriously ill.
Composer Biography
Lorenzo Palomo, one of the most successful contemporary Spanish composers, was made a Knight of the Order of Isabel la Católica by King Juan Carlos I of Spain for disseminating Spanish culture through his music.
Composition History
The work "Caribiana" was commissioned by Jamaican choreographer Garth Fagan for his Garth Fagan Dance company, after he heard Palomo's symphonic poem "The Sneetches."
Composer's Artistic Vision
Many of Lorenzo Palomo's compositions, including "Arabescos," reflect his close connections with the region of Andalusia, particularly the city of Córdoba, evoking Spain's Moorish past.
