Performer Biography
Mikhail Shestakov, the violinist, is an Honoured artist of the Russian Federation and has been concertmaster of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra since 1992.
Compositional Technique
Symphony No. 6 is in G minor, but this is only a 'frame' as the work contains many modulations and a full spectrum of keys, with the tonic remaining hidden until the last moment.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Alla Pavlova dedicates her Symphony No. 6 to Vincent van Gogh, inspired by his painting The Starry Night, and sees his life as a 'flash of lightning in the night sky'.

Alla Pavlova, the composer, received her Master's Degree at the Gnesin Academy of Music in Moscow in 1983 and has lived in New York since 1990.
