Martha Argerich had never played the Bach sonata or the Brahms Scherzo before this recording, discovering them specifically for this album.
Compositional Technique
Bach's six Sonatas, BWV 1014-1019, were among the first to feature a fully written-out keyboard part, rather than relying on a 'figured bass' for improvisation.
