Sadie Harrison's Impresa Amorosa is named after the 15th-century practice where jousting knights and ladies exchanged love tokens, known as 'impresa amorosa'.

Jo Kondo's A Dance for Piano, 'Europeans' was composed very quickly on Christmas Day 1990, almost extemporaneously, directly on music paper.

Nicky Losseff, the performer on this album, studied at the Menuhin School and the Royal Academy of Music and is a senior lecturer at the University of York's Music Department.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The subtitle 'Europeans' for Jo Kondo's piece comes solely from the fact that the composer was reading Henry James's novel of the same name at the time of composition, with no further connection to its content or structure.
