Composition History

Amilcare Ponchielli composed his Concerto for trumpet in F and band in 1866 for the civic band of Cremona, where he served as conductor.

Recording & Production

This album marks the first time in Italy that the concertos by Ponchielli, Rimskij-Korsakov, and Shaw have been recorded and published, and the first time an Italian band has interpreted Persichetti's Symphony.

Artie Shaw's Concerto for clarinet blends jazz elements, such as harmonic texture and rhythmic structure, with the classical concerto form, but with every solo part written out to avoid improvisation.

Patrizio Esposito's Concertino for trumpet is inspired by Jules Verne's 'Twenty-thousand leagues under the sea' and musically explores the various sound environments imagined by the author.
