Claire Désert, the pianist on this album, entered the Conservatoire national supérieur de Musique de Paris at age 14 and later studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.

Robert Schumann, composer of the Nachtstücke, was haunted by dark forebodings in 1839, which influenced the creation of this work.
Interpretation
The Brahms Waltzes Op. 39 are performed here in their solo piano version, rather than the more commonly given piano four-hands version, to enhance their introspective power.
