Rachmaninoff composed his Second Piano Sonata in 1913, starting in Rome in an apartment previously used by Modeste Tchaikovsky, and finishing it at his family estate in Ivanovka, Russia.

This recording was made in February 2021 at the Salon de Musique of the Fondation Singer-Polignac in Paris, using a Steinway D-274 piano.
