For decades, Rachmaninov's Second Symphony was invariably performed with nearly twenty cuts across all four movements, reducing its length from an hour to about 40 minutes.
Composition History
The premiere of Rachmaninov's Second Symphony on February 8, 1908, in St. Petersburg, was a grand success and earned him another Glinka Prize.
