Composer Biography

Ottorino Respighi, an Italian composer, is best known for his 'Roman Trilogy': Fontane di Roma (Fountains of Rome), Pini di Roma (Pines of Rome), and Feste romane (Roman Festivals).

Compositional Technique

In Gli uccelli (The Birds), Respighi transcribes and reinvents 17th and 18th-century vocal and instrumental music, capturing bird calls in the orchestration.
