Igor Stravinsky's Divertimento originated from his neo-romantic ballet 'Le Baiser de La Fée' (The Fairy's Kiss), which was dedicated to Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky and inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale 'The Ice-Maiden'.
Composition History
Joseph Haydn, the composer of the violin concertos on this album, lived and worked as Kapellmeister at the Eszterháza Castle from 1766 to 1790, composing a vast amount of music.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded in January 2021 at the Singelkerk in Amsterdam, using Brüel & Kjær 4006 and Schoeps microphones, and a Horus / Merging Technologies digital converter.
Composition History
Haydn's Violin Concerto in C major was specifically composed for Luigi Tomasini, the virtuoso first violinist and concertmaster of the Eszterháza court chapel, with musical allusions to his Italian homeland.
Instruments
Rosanne Philippens plays on the 1727 'Barrere' Stradivarius violin, thanks to the support of the Elise Mathilde Foundation.

Rosanne Philippens, the violinist on this album, was taught by Anneke Schilt, Coosje Wijzenbeek, Vera Beths, Anner Bylsma, and Ulf Wallin, receiving the highest distinction from two institutes.
