This recording was made in May 2007 at the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Performer Biography

Dejan Lazic´, the pianist on this album, also composes various piano works, chamber, and orchestral music, with his 'Kinderszenen' op. 15 for piano solo premiering in 2007/08.

Interpretation

Pianist Dejan Lazic´ experimented with playing Bartók and Scarlatti works in alternation, inspired by 18th-century performance practices of pairing contrasting pieces.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Béla Bartók worked to gain recognition for Hungarian peasant songs, desiring them to achieve the status of independent folk art, and was also influenced by Arabic music.

Recording & Production

The recording utilized Bruel & Kjaer 4006 and Schoeps microphones, a DSD Super Audio / Meitnerdesign AD/DA digital converter, and custom-designed mixing board by Rens Heijnis.

Both Domenico Scarlatti and Béla Bartók, though separated by two centuries, were virtuoso keyboardists interested in miniature forms and inspired by folk music.
