Theodor von Schacht (1748-1823), a key figure at the Thurn and Taxis court, was appointed director of court music in 1773 and tasked with establishing a first-rate Italian opera ensemble.
Composition History
The Thurn and Taxis court library acquired parts of the music collection of Viennese music-lover Franz Bernhard von Kees, including Haydn symphonies, indicating a strong interest in Haydn's work.
Historical Context
During the Perpetual Diet of Regensburg (1663-1806), "classical music" was the contemporary music of its time, constantly created for a market hungry for new compositions.
Performer Biography
The ESO is one of the few symphony orchestras in the world to have performed with all three of the Three Tenors: Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras, and Plácido Domingo.
