Performer Biography
Gerhard Oppitz has a particular fondness for presenting major groups of work cycles, including all of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Mozart's 18 sonatas, Beethoven's 32 sonatas, all solo works by Schubert, and Brahms' complete piano works.

The piano used for this recording is a Steinway D, instrument number 49 38 25, prepared by Leo H. Niedermeyer from Bayreuth.

This recording was made between April 30 and May 5, 2007, at the Historischer Reitstadel in Neumarkt/Oberpfalz.

Schubert's piano style is described as being as orchestral as it is song-like, not catering to the facile player or conventional piano preconceptions.
Performer Biography
Gerhard Oppitz, the pianist on this recording, won first prize at the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Israel in 1977, with Arthur Rubinstein himself heading the jury.
