Composition History
The 'Trout Quintet' by Franz Schubert was commissioned by Sylvester Paumgartner, a music patron and cellist, who specifically requested the inclusion of the 'charming' trout theme.

Danjulo Ishizaka, the cellist on this recording, plays a Stradivarius cello named 'Feuermann' from 1730, on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
Compositional Technique
Schubert's 'Trout Quintet' features an unusual instrumentation of piano, violin, viola, cello, and double bass, with the double bass and cello forming a strong bass section.
