The four works on this recording were all written by Erwin Schulhoff between 1924 and 1927, during his middle creative phase, except for the first movement of the Sextet which was composed in 1920.

Erwin Schulhoff, the composer, died in 1942 in the Wülzburg internment camp near Weißenburg in Bavaria.

Spectrum Concerts Berlin, founded by American cellist Frank Dodge in 1988, is one of Germany's most significant chamber music ensembles.
Critical Reception
Schulhoff's compositions are gradually finding their way back into concert halls, with a performance tradition slowly forming since the 1980s.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Schulhoff declared in 1920 that "Music should, first and foremost, produce physical well-being, ecstasy even, by means of rhythm," highlighting his affinity for jazz.

This album was co-produced with Deutschlandradio and recorded at the Kammermusiksaal, Philharmonie, Berlin, from January 4th to 6th, 2016.
