Robin Milford, the composer, studied composition under both Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams, with the latter becoming a close friend.

Milford suffered profound trauma and clinical depression after the death of his only son, Barnaby, in a road accident in 1941, a week before his sixth birthday.

Critical Reception
Robin Milford's music, though successful in the early to mid-20th century, fell out of favor towards the end of his life as the British musical establishment preferred more avant-garde styles.
Composition History
Milford's Double Fugue, Op. 10 (1926), an orchestral piece, won a Carnegie Composition prize and was premiered by Ralph Vaughan Williams at Queen's Hall, London.
Performer Biography
The Gould Piano Trio, featured on this recording, won the inaugural International Chamber Music Competition in Melbourne and has toured extensively worldwide.
