Performer Biography
Florian Uhlig made his orchestral debut in 1997 at the London Barbican and has since performed in major concert halls worldwide.
Composition History
In 1844, Robert Schumann experienced a severe psychological and physical breakdown, leading him to cease composing for a time and give up editing his music journal.
Compositional Technique
Schumann's music from 1830 onwards is almost always characterized by a 'latent polyphony,' distinguishing it from most of his contemporaries, including Mendelssohn.
Performer Biography
Florian Uhlig, the pianist on this recording, has lived in London since 1995, having moved there to study and finding the English way of life congenial.
Composer Biography
Schumann, a self-taught musician, took composition lessons with Heinrich Dorn in 1831-1832 to improve his theoretical and compositional knowledge.
